Akili Mansa Richards has always known what he was destined to be, an artist. Hailing from Morristown, NJ, Richards has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember. His family recognized his gift very early on and did everything they could to nurture his talents and help him grow as an artist. Throughout his teen years Richards excelled in his art classes and numerous competitions, and upon graduation from high school he found himself attending the illustrious Hampton University. Richards completed his matriculation through Hampton and graduated with a B.A. in Comprehensive Art. Though all his years of education have proved to serve him well, his senior year stands out. It was that year he discovered Photorealism – a delicate painting technique where fluid paint strokes are used to make the painting look like a photograph.
Akili, being born of the computer generation has taken this style of painting into the 21st Century. Blending Photorealism with his own unique artistry, and utilizing Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Richards has created his very own style of Digital Airbrushing. The merging of classic artistic technique with modern technology allows Richards to create works with such detail and clarity that they seem to jump off the page. His artwork covers a vast range of subjects including sensuality, spirituality, fantasy and searing social commentary.
Richards is a proud husband and father of three beautiful little girls and commits himself daily to being the best artist, husband, father, and most importantly man of God that he can be.
